Chimney Physics -January 2012
This class provides a PowerPoint presentation each day for 5 days. They define the issues that impact naturally aspirated combustion appliances due to adverse pressures. This includes problems associated with fireplaces, furnaces and hearth products using all fuels. It also includes procedures that will allow the chimney technician to diagnose these pressure problems and propose solutions. Included is information about the effects of adverse pressures created by ducts and air handlers, stack effect, how these problems are created and the resulting impact on indoor air quality.

Various venting systems are described, chimney location is discussed and students are introduced to the terms that are defined by "the house as a system". There are quizzes every day and a library that contains many files and a list of terms used.

(CCS)-Certified Chimney Sweep Online Review-January 2012
This review follows the most recent Successful Chimney Sweeping manual and the inspection chapter and Annex from the 2006 or the 2010 NFPA 211. There is also a component to assist you in finding information from the 2006 International Residential Code (IRC)that makes up the second exam. The IRC portion is open book and you must have a copy in order to take the exam. Successful completion of both exams is required for the Certified Chimney Sweep credential to be awarded.

In addition to reading this material students will be asked to participate on a daily basis. There are daily lessons and quizzes. Anyone that takes this class will learn about issues relating to the technical aspect of chimney sweeping, troubleshooting, health and safety and much more. It is a great introduction to the industry and a real preparation for the CSIA Certified Chimney exams.

There are five days that will require your attention. Post questions to the bulletin board and visit the digital library for the greatest benefit. I am also interested in constructive criticism, useful tips and any wishes or wants that you think would improve this program.

(CDET)-Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician Review-January 2012

We teach a procedure that includes measuring the airflow and back pressure in the duct. The review instruction includes tools required, testing procedures and installation of new ducts. Code references are used to define a proper installation. This is a rapidly growing service business and there is a tremendous need for qualified technicians across the country.
